The recruitment experience has been good so far. Personal story:  I applied for the post of a Resettlement support worker. Paul phoned me and an interview was scheduled for 9:30am about a week away from the day the call came in.

I discussed this development with my husband and asked him to return early from his shift on that day so that I could attend my interview on time. Unfortunately, my husband didn't return early from his shift as we agreed, and I decided to just go for the interview with my son. I made up my mind to explain the situation to staff and I also asked my husband to come straight to Aspire to pick up our son.

I showed up at the office at 8:45am and staff were surprised to see me so early and gave me a warm welcome. What was more surprising was how they interacted with my son and didn't question me about his presence. I went on to explain my situation to the interviewers (Martin and Margaret) and asked for extra 30mins so that my husband could pick up our son and they obliged. My husband arrived by 10:10am and my interview was held shortly after. However, I went home feeling quite unsettled and sad as I felt that showing up with my son had put me at a disadvantage and I thought I had no chance at all.

One week later I was offered the job and my training was scheduled for three days of which one of the days was my birthday. On that particular day, I came into the office and met a beautiful surprise. My trainer Cammei got a nice chocolate cake placed on the table for all to celebrate my day. I was happy and felt quite loved and accepted.

Moving on to my service at Garscube Road, the experience was even much better. Everyone was welcoming and ready to put me through everything. Special appreciation to Carrie, my coordinator, who shows every little thing to keep me up to date. I feel happy and blessed to have met these loving people. (Support Worker, GE)
